Special Topics Schools

Among our academic offerings, Brown Physics is proud of our highly successful and in-demand Special Topics Schools such as the AI Winter School, the Puerto Rico-Brown Exploration (PROBE) Winter and Summer Schools and the Quantum Winter School.

At our Special Topics Schools, our exceptional faculty, alongside world-class presenters, teach classes and host modules ranging in topics from machine learning methods, artificial intelligence in physics and finding interacting starburst galaxies. PROBE Program students conduct research with faculty and graduate students on Brown’s campus, with the full complement of Brown’s physical resources and attend physics classes taught by Brown and UPR faculty.

The Quantum Winter School’s research team is an inter-institution collaboration between Brown University and Dartmouth College. The School features an outstanding faculty roster, including Professor and Chair of Brown Physics Vesna Mitrović, Professor of Physics and 2025 President-elect of the American Physical Society (APS) Brad Marston, Professor of Physics and APS Fellow Dmitri Feldman, and Dartmouth College’s Professor of Physics Chandrasekhar Ramanathan, an experimental physicist working at the interface of quantum information processing and condensed matter physics.
