4b40.30 Leslie's Cube

PURPOSE: To show that surfaces at the same temperature radiate do not radiate equally.

DESCRIPTION: A Leslie's cube, as shown, has three different surface areas. One side is black, one is white and two are smooth brass.  The cube is filled with water and brought to a boil with a bunsen burner.  A reading of the heat radiation from the surfaces is made using a thermopile and an electrometer.
