PURPOSE: To show how the elastic properties of gases at constant volume and constant pressure relate the oscillations of a ball in the neck of a bottle.
DESCRIPTION: A ball fits inside a precision tube. The tube is placed on top of a large bottle. When the ball is released to fall down the tube it oscillates. The frequency of oscillation is related to the cp/cv.
EQUIPMENT: Ruchardt's tube with Marriott's Bottle.
SETUP NOTES: This demo is extremely sensitive to the
ambient room temperature and humidity, and the oils from your fingers.
