PURPOSE: To show the elasticity of gases
DESCRIPTION: A bal is carefully made to fit a precision tube. The tube is placed on top of a Helmholtz resonator. When the ball falls down the tube it oscillates. The frequency of oscillation is related to the cp/cv.
EQUIPMENT: Ball and tube with helmholtz resonator.
SETUP NOTES: This demo is often fickle. It is extremely sensitive to the
room temperature.
