PURPOSE: To illustrate the dynamics of a SLINKY suspended from one end and released.
DESCRIPTION: Stand atop the lecture bench and hold a slinky in your hand. The
slinky hangs stretched toward the floor. Release and observe the bottom of the slinky. The
bottom end will remain at rest until the entire
SLINKY has collapsed, at which time it will begin to accelerate downward.
EQUIPMENT: Slinky stored in the mechanics of waves.
