PURPOSE: To show Newton's second law.
DESCRIPTION: A mass hangs from a spring scale. Note the deflection when no movement is made with your hand. Now pull or jerk the mass and note the reading on the scale change.
EQUIPMENT: Spring scale and mass as shown. Use the 40 newton spring scale and the 1826 gram mass.
SETUP NOTES: Use a long string to connect the mass to the scale.
