PURPOSE: To show the inertia property of degassed water.
DESCRIPTION: A long, clear glass cylinder contains a vacuum with degassed water. Rock the tube back and forth and listen to the loud, sharp smack made by the water colliding with the end of the cylinder.
EQUIPMENT: Water hammer apparatus. A microphone and amplifier are optional.
