PURPOSE: To discuss the political history of the standard for length
DESCRIPTION: This is not a demo. It is meant to motivate a discussion. The AJP 57(11), 988 "The Politics of the Meter Stick" is about the reform of weights and measures during the 18th century French revolution in Paris. It details the early attempts to correct the development of the meter standard from the antiquated traditions of the Ancient Regime. This article was written to commemorate the bicentennial of the French revolution.
