PURPOSE: Demonstrate radioactivity and the Geiger counter.
DESCRIPTION: A Geiger counter is placed near an alpha source. The count rate is heard using the audio output and an amplifier and loud speaker. The pathlength can be qualitatively shown, and a piece of paper can be inserted between the source and the detector.
EQUIPMENT: Geiger counter, amp, speaker and alpha source.
