ATTRACTION PLATES 2C20.40

PURPOSE: To show the Bernoulli force.

DESCRIPTION: An airhose is connected to a plate with a hole.  A strong air current is made to blow through the hole.  A second plate has a long guide pin but no hole.  The two plates are placed together with the pin of one plate guided through the hole of the other plate.  The two plates are attracted together by the air blowing out radially from the small area between them.  A weight is made to hang from one plate by a small hook.

DO NOT DROP THE PLATE.
If  the plates are dropped they will become bent and will no longer work.

EQUIPMENT: The attraction plates are stored in fluid mechanics.  The weight shown in the photo is in the weight drawer.  The air petcock is in the petcock drawer and the air hose is hanging from the hose hanger on the side of the chemical cabinet.

SETUP NOTES: This demo will fail if the air stream is not at full 60 psi power or if the mass is too heavy.  Also, the plates are made of soft brass.  If  the plates are dropped they will become bent and will no longer work correctly.
