PURPOSE: To demonstrate microwave standing waves.
DESCRIPTION: A standing wave is set up between the source and an aluminum sheet. The
receiving antenna
can be moved back and forth between the transmitter and the reflector to locate nodes and
antinodes. The
wavelength is 12 cm, so the nodes (or antinodes) are 6 cm apart.
EQUIPMENT: Microwave source, aluminum reflecting sheet, and receiving antenna with
projecton meter on
overhead projector.
SETUP TIME: 5 min.
