5h40.60 Barlow's Wheel

PURPOSE: To demonstrate how an electric potential difference and a current can be generated when a conductor moves through a magnetic field.

DESCRIPTION: Rotate a copper disc between the pole tips of a strong radar magnet. This will create a potential difference which is picked up by brushes located between the center and the outside of the disc.  The voltage is displayed by the galvenometer.  Reverse the rotation of the disc to reverse current.

EQUIPMENT: Barlow's wheel, galvo.

SETUP TIME: None.
