PURPOSE: To demonstrate magnetic shielding.
DESCRIPTION: A pair of Helmholtz coils are powered to create a uniform magnetic field. A Gaussmeter is used to probe and measure the field inside the coils. A round tube of Mu metal is inserted into the field and probed with the Gaussmeter.
EQUIPMENT: Mu metal, Lakeshore Gaussmeter, external display for overhead, power supply, Helmholtz coils..
SETUP TIME: 1 Hour.
