Experiments in Modern Physics

Provide an understanding of how and why experiments are designed and performed; provide an insight in and some background to modern physics; expose students to the modern experimental research techniques.

Assignments and Grading

Assignments: There will be at least 6 experiments, a probable list being:
Radioactive Decay

Blackbody radiation

X-Rays, Diffraction

Franck-Hertz Experiment

Zeeman Effect

Semiconductors

Grading:
Based on lab reports, lab preposal, lab notebooks, possible class presentation, and a final exam.
